The Best Kind of Tween Birthday Party

My middle girl is 10 today. I can’t believe it, but I guess I have to accept it anyway! We celebrated her big birthday (because you know double digits are a big deal) with the best kind of tween birthday party this weekend. We had a fun hotel sleepover! I did the same thing with my oldest for her 11th birthday, and it was such a hit that I knew I would have a similar party for Reagan at some point. This year seemed like the perfect year to try it, not only because I’m such a procrastinator that I didn’t have some other plan lined up.

Our Saturday fun party night schedule included:

*A trip to the grocery store to pick up a little birthday cake and snacks for the hotel room so we wouldn’t have to waste money on vending machine food.

*Packing a suitcase and the car for all the fun we were planning!

*Picking up friends to get started on our evening.

*Eating out at the birthday girl’s favorite restaurant – Olive Garden. No dessert needed because we had cake for the hotel room.

*Moving on to the hotel room for sleepover fun.

*Opening presents!

*Dancing to Taylor Swift music (for what felt like hours), jumping on the bed, and pillow fights.

*Making the switch to pajamas for the night and doing each other’s makeup.

*Making each other dizzy spinning in the desk chair. (I swear no furniture was harmed during our stay.)

*Playing games and eating junk food.

*Not worrying about the mess at all because we weren’t in my house. Side note: Apples to Apples Junior is a FUN game.

*Eventually, finally, after hours of jumping around and having fun and watching TV, sleeping.

*Dragging the kids out of bed to take advantage of the continental breakfast.

*Driving home and wrapping the whole fun party up by 11:00 a.m. A perfect party!

Reagan absolutely loved celebrating her birthday this way. And where was I during all the festivities? I played with them some, but the suite allowed them – and me – some privacy with a doorway between the two rooms. So I was able to relax and hang out with my sister-in-law who joined us once we were at the hotel, talking and watching TV. Honestly, I think I would do this for every birthday going forward if it made sense! I know my girls would certainly be on board with that plan, and it’s much cheaper than the roller skating party that Reagan requested before I came up with this wonderful alternate option.

Love this party idea? Pin it!
